What is Cosplay?

Cosplay is the role-playing.

The earliest Cosplay appeared in Western countries. Playing various “ghost” characters on Halloween is actually a Cosplay activity. However, after the popularity of Japanese animation, Cosplay gradually developed into a unique cultural performance art.

One of the spirits of cosplay is the restoration of characters, and another spirit of cosplay is DIY. The rapid development of cosplay has made itself more and more mature, which is manifested in more perfect costume production, prop production, makeup and performance. Cosplay has gradually developed and grown among teenage anime fans and has become one of the representatives of teenage pop culture.

Cosplay is a demanding hobby, a world of entertainment. Coser is required to perform a role vividly, so the basic requirements are “similar in appearance” and “similar in demeanor”. “Similar in appearance” means that the costumes, props, makeup, and hairstyles must be similar. “Similar demeanor” means that the deity’s behavior and demeanor must be similar.

Some cosplayers will play by themselves, and some like to invite other people in the cosplay forum to play the same set of anime characters in the event.

Coser takes clothing as the center, and maximizes the artistic charm and wearing effect of cosplay through the skills displayed – dressing, footwork, body language, positioning and appearance, etc., showing the soul of clothing, and bringing its unique vitality and elegance. The style of the clothes is conveyed to the audience, so that the audience is infected and intoxicated by the connotation of the clothing. Therefore, the first artistic feature of Cosplay costumes is the complete restoration of the characters.
